Kids Holding T_Shirts

When Central Middle School in Port Huron, MI, announced a special spirit day on which students were allowed to wear professional and college athletic attire, teacher Sara (Thoms) Lincoln thought it would be great to see her alma mater represented in the halls of her school. Sara is a 2015 graduate of Concordia University Ann Arbor School of Education and connected with Professor Kyle Chuhran to make it happen. With the help of School of Education Professor Kyle Chuhran and Athletic Director Lonnie Pries, Concordia gifted over 80 shirts to Central Middle School.

Central Middle School in Port Huron, MI, announced a special spirit day on which students were allowed to wear professional and college athletic attire. Sara (Thoms) Lincoln, an alumnus (2015), thought it would be great to see the students of Central Middle School, the school she now teaches at, representing her alma mater in the halls for the day.

She decided to contact Professor Kyle Chuhran, of Concordia’s School of Education for help. Professor Chuhran coordinates the Elementary Education Program. Four years ago, Sara graduated from the Elementary Education Program which prepares future educators to teach Kindergarten through 8th grade. Professor Kyle Chuhran has been an Elementary Education Coordinator since 2014. He also has a great abundance of experience teaching in Lutheran schools since 1988.

“When I heard from Sara, there was no doubt in my mind I wanted to see what we could do,” said Professor Chuhran, “What a perfect way to show support to an alum, our schools, and most importantly, our future generation.”

After hearing from Mrs. Lincoln, Professor Chuhran partnered with CUAA’s Athletic Director Lonnie Pries. This partnership lead to the donation of over 80 shirts to Mrs. Lincoln’s students at Central Middle School. Pries immediately supported the request.  “I was excited to hear about the opportunity to connect with middle school students,” said Pries, “It’s a student base we don’t typically get to work with much, so I was happy to support their spirit day in a tangible way. I hope the students wear their CUAA gear with pride and someday consider continuing their fan support as a student here on the Concordia University Ann Arbor campus.”

On March 14th, Professor Chuhran delivered the shirts in person to the school, where Mrs. Lincoln and one of her students, Lilah, were able to show off their new threads. Lincoln is quoted as saying “I am so incredibly grateful to have attended a university that is so supportive!” Concordia University and the School of Education are proud of our graduates like Mrs. Lincoln, who are having a life-changing impact on their students each and every day!

“I am so incredibly grateful to have attended a university that is so supportive!” said Mrs. Lincoln
