As we close out the spring 2023 semester, three students are excited to share their art with the Concordia Community before they graduate.

As part of any undergraduate program that stems from the CUAA art department, students are required to put together a senior show, fill the Kreft gallery and host an opening reception for their friends and family. This semester, we have three talented artists who have been working hard for the last four years to put together unique collections that tell a story about themselves and their college journeys.

Note: The following information is written by each of the artists.

Bloomed – Syndey Deutsch (’23)

April 3 – 14, Opening Reception on April 6 at 6 p.m.

Artist Bio

Hi! My name is Sydney Deutsch and I am a portrait photographer. My love for photography started when I was gifted my first camera for my sixteenth birthday. Now, nearly five years later, I couldn’t imagine my life without that camera. As a digital media design student here at CUAA, I have been able to focus in on my passion for photography, and my four years in this program have been quite a journey of growth and discovery.

My show, “Bloomed” is a deeply personal insight into this journey, where you can expect to see some of my best pieces from over the past four years. Each one tells a unique story and explores various photographic techniques to share these narratives creatively. I have put my heart and soul into every single shot and I could not be more excited to share it with everyone!

Encompassed – Jocelyn Kohls (’23)

April 17 – 30, Opening Reception on April 20 at 6 p.m.

Artist Bio

Jocelyn Kohls will graduate in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media Design: Communication and a minor in marketing.

Encompassed showcases her finest work in photography throughout her years at Concordia University Ann Arbor, with an emphasis placed on her time abroad at the University of Westminster in London, England during the summer of 2023. This experience abroad allowed Kohls to further develop her photography skills as she experimented with various techniques and found her artistic style. Throughout this exhibition, viewers will become immersed in her world of portraiture, music, and the city of London.

Gaea – Lauren Martin (’23)

May 1 – 14, Opening Reception on May 6 at 3 p.m.

Lauren Martin is a senior who will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media Design with an emphasis on communications and a minor in public relations.

This gallery show, appropriately titled ‘Gaea’, which is the Greek name for Mother Nature, reveals the synchronicities, textures, and patterns found in nature. Martin’s show is comprised of multiple art mediums including photography, ink prints, and sculptures. The variety of mediums reflects the variety of forms and figures that occur naturally all around us.
