The R. John Buuck Field House hardcourt will be humming Friday and Saturday, January 26-27 when Concordia University Wisconsin hosts the 67th annual Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT), one of the nation’s oldest collegiate basketball tournaments and a highlight of the athletic year among participating Concordias.
Men’s and women’s teams from Concordia University Wisconsin, Concordia University Nebraska, Concordia University Chicago and Concordia University Ann Arbor will take part. The tournament begins with a 1 p.m. women’s game Friday pitting Concordia University Ann Arbor Cardinals vs. Concordia University Nebraska Bulldogs, whom have won the last four titles and eight of the last ten. The Bulldogs have also claimed three of the last four men’s titles.
The host university chooses their Friday opponent, a new approach to the tournament schedule that began in 2017. Complete first and second-round matchups are listed below (all times Central):
Friday, January 26
- (Women) Concordia Nebraska vs. Concordia Ann Arbor, 1 p.m.
- (Men) Concordia Ann Arbor vs. Concordia Nebraska, 3 p.m.
- (Women) Concordia Chicago vs. Concordia Wisconsin, 6 p.m.
- (Men) Concordia Chicago vs. Concordia Wisconsin, 8 p.m.
Saturday, January 27
- Women’s consolation game 12 p.m.
- Men’s consolation game 2 p.m.
- Cheer/Dance competition (NEW in 2018) 4 p.m.
- Women’s championship game 5:30 p.m.
- Men’s championship game 7:30 p.m.
Following the men’s championship game, there will be a trophy presentation to the championship teams and all-tournament teams as well as a devotion for all attendees.
An All Alumni & Parent Social will be held Saturday, January 27 at The Highland House in Mequon from 3-5:30 p.m., right before the women’s and men’s championship games. This reception is for parents and alumni of any of the participating Concordia system schools. Concordia University Ann Arbor will also have an alumni table stationed at the tournament for tournament alumni attendees to stop by, connect, and gather CUAA spirit items.
