Senior Sam Botzum shares his highlights from his time with the CUAA Theatre Department.

Sam Botzum is a senior at CUAA and has been involved in the theatre department for the last four years. This fall, he will perform in his ninth show with CUAA Theatre in their production of You Can’t Take It With You as Donald. Some of his previous roles include Karl in Big Fish, Henslowe in Shakespeare in Love, and Hugo Peabody in Bye Bye Birdie. Below, Sam shares some of his highlights and favorite moments while being with the CUAA Theatre Department.

How long have you been doing theatre?

I have been doing theatre since 8th grade.

What made you want to do theatre at CUAA?

I loved doing theatre in high school and wanted to get back into it. When I found out that CUAA had a theatre program, I was thrilled!

What has been your favorite show and role you’ve done at CUAA?

It’s either Puffs or Big Fish, I can’t choose. Puffs is what made CUAA Theatre what it is today and was probably the most fun I’ve had onstage. Big Fish is what pulled CUAA Theatre closer than I could imagine, as well as the rest of campus, and got us through a tough time. Also, the story is deep and hits hard for a musical.

What is your favorite memory of CUAA Theatre?

I don’t actually have a favorite memory. Every bit of my experience with CUAA Theatre is a treasured memory. The cast and crew I’ve worked with over the past four years have been incredible. Without them, CUAA Theatre wouldn’t be the same. From acting on stage and playing a variety of roles, to writing and directing a one-act play, every memory of CUAA Theatre has a very special place in my heart.
