Concordia’s new business data applications concentration requires the computer science master’s core courses. In addition to the core, you’ll take business data analytics classes. In these classes, you’ll learn to use your technical skillsets and programming abilities to collect, scrub, analyze, and visualize data to drive better business decisions. This blend of computer science, data analytics, and business classes will prepare you to be a valuable asset to any organization.
Concordia’s M.S. in Computer Science
- All courses are available online in an accelerated eight-week format.
- You can take classes in any order in either of the two formats, including some online and some face-to-face.
What’s the curriculum like?
All concentrations within the Computer Science Department will take the following classes as a shared technology core:
CSC510 Vocational Computing
This is an advanced course on current trends in vocations related to technology and related dilemmas. Technology tends to amplify our actions and there are ethical considerations when leveraging technology to solve problems that may not be obvious. This course focuses on the fundamentals of ethics as they relate to computing. This course deals with modern trends and how those fundamentals are repurposed today in a constantly changing world.
CSC515 Artificial Intelligence
Engage with current trends in Artificial Intelligence that build on our undergraduate AI course (CSC415). An emphasis will be placed on emerging tools as well as robotics.
CSC520 User Experience (UX)
Learn about current trends involving how humans use technology and the appropriate and changing interfaces required. This course emphasizes fundamental user experience theory. It also tackles emerging technologies and their unique interface requirements with human beings.
You’ll study the latest trends involving Cyber Security and Penetration Testing. This course emphasizes emerging threats and their detection, prevention, and recovery.
This course provides students with the background to plan, design, and implement database management systems. Also, you’ll learn how to maintain and use database management systems. It addresses the database structures, requirements, functions, and evaluation of database management systems. In this course, you’ll focus on the relational database model, standard SQL language, database structure normalization, conceptual data modeling, and the entity-relationship data model. This course also includes concepts of data integrity, security, privacy, and concurrence control.
CSC540 Applied Computer Networking
Learn more about current trends in Computer Networking and Security. You’ll focus on advanced topics still related to traditional computer networking concepts.
CSC548 Mobile Computer Architecture
Understand the current trends in Computer Architecture. This course emphasizes decisions related to mobile devices that need to weigh battery life, heat, and performance more critically than traditional computer systems.
The Business Data Applications core includes the following courses:
- MBA 534 Mastering Analytics and Decision-Making: This course is based on business problem-solving. Students will cover statistics through linear regression and ANOVAs.
- MBA 569 – Management Science & Analytics: focuses on linear programming with Excel. Students will study maximum profit/minimum expense problems, transportation problems, network flow models, forecasting, and inventory management
- MBA 562 Financial Analyses to Drive Business Decisions: a course based in finance and managerial accounting.
