The Moving Wall

The Moving Wall is a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and its on display at Concordia University Ann Arbor Nov. 10-14, 2021.


As a part of Concordia University Ann Arbor’s Salute to Service Week, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall is coming to Ann Arbor. The memorial has toured the country for over 36 years.

This will be CUAA’s first time hosting the replicated memorial. The Moving Wall will be escorted to CUAA’s campus by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, November 10, traveling from the Ann Arbor Regent hotel to Concordia’s campus at 10 a.m. Throughout Wednesday, the wall will be installed on the front lawn of the Earhart Manor along Geddes Road, on the base that CUAA’s maintenance crew has created to support the memorial.

Following the small opening ceremony at 4 p.m. on November 10, The Moving Wall will be open for viewing 24-hours a day until the morning of Sunday, November 14.

Best times to visit The Moving Wall

The Moving Wall will be open to the public 24-hours a day from Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. until Sunday morning, November 14. While members of the community are welcome at any time, there are significant campus events taking place on November 11 that visitors might consider timing up with their visit to the replicated memorial.

November 10, 2021

6:30 p.m. • Veterans Inspiring Veterans Gallery Art Show Opening

Throughout November, the Kreft Art Gallery will be hosting a very special exhibit, “Veterans Inspiring Veterans,” showcasing more than 100 works of art created by veterans. CUAA’s Kreft Art Gallery is free and open to the public from 12 – 4 p.m., Monday-Friday. On Tuesday, November 10, at 6:30 p.m., artists from the show will be present to share about their pieces. Visit The Moving Wall on your way to or from the gallery opening.

November 11, 2021

10:30 a.m. • Veterans Day Chapel Service

Join us for Daily Chapel in CUAA’s Chapel of the Holy Trinity for a Veterans Day Chapel service. Daily Chapel begins at 10:30 a.m. and concludes around 10:50 a.m.

11:00 a.m. • Huey helicopter flyover

Following the Veterans Day Chapel service, there will be a flyover over Concordia’s campus and The Moving Wall.

Officially known as the Bell UH-1 Iroquois, the “Huey” helicopter was a staple of combat during the Vietnam War. It is estimated that nearly 12,000 helicopters crashed or were shot down during the war, resulting in the deaths of nearly 5,000 American pilots and crew members.

At 11:00 a.m. on November 11 (the day and time of the signing of The Armistice, the agreement that ended WWI), our veterans will be honored with a flyover by a Huey helicopter that actually flew during the Vietnam War.

Helicopter Rides

After the ceremonies, anyone interested can purchase a ride in the helicopter, with the proceeds going to help subsidize the cost of the flyover.

7:00 p.m. • Veterans Day Concert by Seipp/Sheets Trumpet & Organ Duo

Visit The Moving Wall before or after attending the Veterans Day Concert on Thursday, November 11 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. The concert is free and open to the public.

8:30 a.m. • 5k Run: “Jet 4 a Vet”

Run through our beautiful campus to celebrate those who have served our country with honor! The cost is $15; all participants will receive a CUAA Veterans Week t-shirt. Visit The Moving Wall before or after the 5k race!
