Concordia University Ann Arbor’s Earhart Manor, 4090 Geddes Road, will be the site of a Faculty House Concert on Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m.
The FREE concert will feature CUAA clarinet instructor Susan Hoekstra performing one of the most well-known pieces of chamber music, the Clarinet Quintet K 481 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Originally written for a close friend, the quintet for clarinet and string quartet likely was first performed in a home setting as opposed to a concert hall.
“For a clarinetist, performing this masterpiece with its aria like melodies and sunlit good cheer is a gift for the performer and audience alike,” noted Hoekstra. “Being able to present it in a setting like Earhart Manor makes it even more special,” she added.
The program also includes an arrangement of Oblivion, a beautifully sad tango by Argentine composer Astor Piazollo. Guest artists will include string musicians Phoebe Gelzer-Govatos and Lauren Hansen, violins, Christine Beamer, viola, and Stefan Koch, cello. This quartet performs with a variety of area orchestras, including the Ann Arbor, Lansing and Midland Symphony Orchestras.
