Meet the Uncommon Alumni who’s experience at CUAA changed the trajectory of her life.

Have you ever been out running errands or enjoying time with friends and you strike up a conversation with a stranger?  Have you ever had that stranger be someone with whom you share common experiences?

That’s exactly what happened to Dr. Sara Clemm von Hohenberg, Director of the Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with Elementary and Secondary Teacher Certification program.  Dr. CvH was hosting an event recently when she started talking to Deedy.  They soon learned they were both connected to Concordia and were excited to share stories and experiences.

Read on to see what Deedy is up to now and how Concordia impacted her life.  What experiences do you have to share about your time at Concordia?

What year did you graduate from Concordia and what was your program of study?

I graduated in May 2002 with my degree in Elementary Education.

What is your favorite memory from your time at Concordia?

My favorite memory is the friendly and knowledgeable professors and students.  I felt like I was a part of a huge family when I attended Concordia which was something that I was truly looking for at that time. I also loved the small class sizes which allowed me to really get to know my professors and fellow classmates.

What have you been doing since you graduated?

I was hired in the Taylor School District in October of 2002 as an elementary teacher.   I just recently retired after teaching 21 years.

How has Concordia impacted your life in the big picture?

I was nervous to go back to college after graduating from Eastern Michigan University in 1984.  I had three young girls when I enrolled at Concordia.  I was concerned how I was going to handle the workload and be a mother.   Concordia helped me gain my self-confidence again.  I was actually sad when I graduated.  I felt like I was leaving my close-knit second family.  Thank you, Concordia, for the great experience and memories.
