Anne of Green Gables will kick off the 2017-2018 drama season at Concordia University Ann Arbor, with four performances scheduled October 12-15. The curtain rises at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday in the Black Box Theatre of the Kreft Center for the Arts on the university’s main campus, 4090 Geddes Road, with a 2 p.m. matinee scheduled Sunday.
Cast as the leads of this adaptation of the Lucy Maude Montgomery novel are: Elizabeth Reames (Marilla Cuthbert), a junior English major; and Lauren Masteller and Celah Convis, high school dual enrolled students who will alternate between the roles of Anne and her best friend Diana. Tim Pollack, a professional actor with a bachelor’s degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland will play Matthew Cuthbert and will serve as acting coach for this realistic period piece. From time to time, Concordia’s theatre department employs guest artists to demonstrate advanced acting techniques.
The play centers around the two siblings who request an orphan boy to assist with chores on their modest farm. To their surprise they’re sent a precocious, red headed girl who quickly endears herself through her charming and irrepressible spirit.
Gerard Dzuiblinski, who teaches voice, improvisation, directing and movement, will direct Anne of Green Gables. He studied movement under the famed, French mime artist Marcel Marceau, and earned his MA in Directing from Antioch University. “This play is an insightful and complex look at an intelligent girl who must overcome life in an informal foster care system and use her God-given talents to unite her community and serve others,” noted Dzuiblinski. “I am proud to direct such an awesome project with a dedicated cast and crew.”
Ticket prices for all shows are $12 for adults, and $7 for seniors and students.

- 40th Annual Boar’s Head Festival, Friday, December 1-Sunday, December 3 (7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 4 p.m. Sunday), Chapel of the Holy Trinity. Tickets, priced from $8-$15, will go on sale beginning Monday, October 30 at 1 p.m.
- The Concordia Wind and String Ensemble, Thursday, December 7, 8 p.m., Kreft Center Black Box Theatre, Free.
