Music Festival

Concordia University's annual Music Festival for Lutheran Schools March 10 showcased talented Lutheran middle school musicians from around the state and parts of northern Ohio.

Music FestivalEnsembles performed and received feedback and ratings from a panel of knowledgeable judges. The Lutheran Schools Music Committee once again coordinated the 7-hour event held around campus, 4090 Geddes Road. Band performances took place in the Kreft Center Black Box Theater, while the handbell competition was in the nearby Kreft Center Art Gallery. The Chapel Of The Holy Trinity was the site of the choral adjudication.

“We were thrilled to host these talented students from our Lutheran middle schools,” said Dr. Brian Altevogt, CUAA’s director of choirs. “We want to encourage them in their fine music making, recognizing it requires devotion, commitment, and regular work. The payoff is tremendous – the opportunities that God gives us to serve with our musical gifts are many, and through our music making we can richly bless and serve others,” Altevogt added.

The 13 participating schools this year were: Emmanuel Lutheran, Dearborn; Guardian Lutheran, Dearborn; Our Savior Lutheran, Hartland; Our Savior Lutheran, Lansing; St. Francis Lutheran, Ann Arbor; St. Paul Lutheran, Ann Arbor; St. John Lutheran, Fraser; St. Michael Lutheran, Wayne; Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran, Brighton; St. Paul Lutheran, Napoleon; St. Paul Lutheran, Royal Oak; Trinity Lutheran, Jackson and Trinity Lutheran, Toledo.

The purpose of the Lutheran Schools Music Committee is to encourage musical development of the children in elementary and middle schools by sponsoring festivals, workshops and other educational opportunities.
