Concordia University Ann Arbor is opening its doors to Marygrove College students in response to the college’s Aug. 9 announcement that it would drop its undergraduate programs at the end of the fall 2017 semester.
Concordia will host a transfer workshop, specifically designed for Marygrove students, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, to make the transition as smooth as possible for any students who choose to continue their degree pursuit at Concordia. Students are still able to apply and register for the fall 2017 semester, which begins Aug. 28. According to The Detroit News, this decision will displace about 300 undergraduate students.
Concordia University will apply the current Marygrove College published tuition rate for incoming transfer students for one year upon their enrollment at CUAA. Marygrove transfer students will be eligible to apply for financial aid. Additionally, Concordia’s team of academic advisors will work closely with students to design degree completion plans that maximize transfer credits and enable students to maintain momentum in their chosen fields of study.
With its total enrollment of 1,054, Concordia’s size and proximity offer a well-suited alternative to the northwest Detroit liberal arts college, which is located just over 30 miles away from Concordia’s scenic Ann Arbor campus. Additionally, the institutions’ missions and program offerings closely align, making a CUAA educational experience a natural fit for any Marygrove student looking for a comparable experience to the one they originally pursued.
“We want to help the Marygrove students who, because of the climate of higher education today, have found themselves in the difficult situation of needing to find a new university home,” says Campus Chief Executive Curt Gielow. “We aim to build on the quality educational foundation that was laid at Marygrove by opening our doors to any students who decide to continue their education at Concordia. I am confident that these students will find Concordia to be a place that will welcome them and prepare them to lead lives of purpose. Our goal is to smooth this initial transition phase as much as possible for them.”
The Aug. 22 transfer workshop will include a campus overview and step-by-step instructions on the transfer student admission process to Concordia. There will be academic advisors, financial aid, and credit evaluation officers available to work with students and answer questions in person. Students who aren’t certain they’re ready to commit to Concordia are also invited to schedule a campus visit with the university’s admissions staff to learn more about Concordia’s offerings.
