Concordia University Ann Arbor Directory of Pre-Seminary Rev. Ted Hopkins, PhD gives monthly updates on church work programs including Applied Theology, Biblical Studies, Christian Thought, Family Life Ministry, Lutheran Teaching Diploma, Parish Music, Pre-seminary, Pre-deaconess, and Theological Languages.
God’s blessings to you all during this Lenten season! I pray that your Lententide will be a time of repentance and renewal for all of you to recognize again your sinfulness and fall before the crucified Christ in whom you have the full forgiveness of sins. Renewed in him, I pray you will boldly preach the same life-giving Gospel to your people, providing them with the peace that can only come through the crucified and risen Lord Jesus.
Why study ministry at CUAA?
At CUAA, we are entering our heaviest recruiting period of the year, which has me thinking a lot about why CUAA is such a great place to study for ministry.
- First, our small, family atmosphere means that the students get to know their professors personally, and can build close relationships with the faculty.
- Second, CUAA church work students have so many opportunities to grow on campus in both faith and in leadership, helping with youth events, worship, bible studies, and much more on campus.
- Third, CUAA has a great program called STEPS (Student Training Experiences for Pre-church work Students) for pre-seminary, pre-deaconess, family life ministry, and parish music students in which students are paid as interns. In STEPS, students get practical experience helping with ministry in congregations with a pastor or other professional church staff member as a mentor.
Prospective student conversations
When it comes to potential students for next year, I have already had a number of great conversations with students who I pray will be joining us in the fall. Please pray for them and their decisions about going into church work. While I want all of them to CUAA, it’s paramount that we encourage young people to consider ministry. In fact, do you have someone in your congregation that you can encourage to think about ministry? If I can help you with that encouragement in any way, please call or email me!
